Chicago Band Maggie Speaks Unveils 0-0-0 Plan for New Year’s Eve 2012

JOLIET, IL – 08 November 2011 – Chicago’s favorite cover band has unveiled their ’0-0-0′ plan for renewing oneself this New Year’s eve.

Maggie Speaks New Year's Eve 2012

Maggie Speaks has unveiled their '0-0-0' plan to renew their fans' finances this New Year's Eve.

Maggie Speaks will be performing at Stage 151 inside Harrah’s Joliet to ring in 2012.  Their plan hinges on simplicity and ease without sacrificing quality.  The three zeroes in their ’0-0-0′ plan reflect:

  • 0 cover charge
  • 0 hassles
  • 0 places you’d rather be

Zero cover charge means tickets aren’t necessary.  Rather than pay hundreds of dollars in advance, Maggie Speaks and Harrah’s Joliet let you keep your money.  In fact, you may even win some if you play your cards right.

Zero hassles means it’s easy.  Don’t struggle for parking in downtown Chicago this year or frantically try to find a reasonable hotel close enough to your party venue.  Harrah’s Joliet has ample parking and lodging for you – right where the entertainment is.

And with Maggie Speaks rocking in the new year, where else would you rather be?

This year, vow to renew your own economy and get it started right with Maggie Speaks and Harrah’s Joliet.

More show details to be released soon.  Visit maggiespeaks.com for more information.

Live band karaoke makes it all about the guests

Fortune 500 Hotel Chain | Toronto, Canada and Phoenix, AZ | 2009

In the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression companies faced a challenge.  They still needed their people to meet in order to network, motivate, share best practices and generate new ideas, but they needed it to not feel like they were celebrating during a funeral.  The key to accomplishing that goal was to take the focus off of the band and make the employees the stars.  Enter What Would You Say – our live band karaoke program. Our client’s sales staff could bond together and promote team work by having each region perform a group song, complete with costumes and choreography in front of their peers.

Different regions of their sales staff chose a song and worked together to costume, choreograph and rehearse.  It culminated in a live performance on stage in front of the other sales regions backed up by Maggie Speaks.  We were able to present digital karaoke-style lyrics and offer just enough musical support and coaching to keep things on track.

Both events were a big success and the people really got into it.  The costumes were amazing and the dance moves were quite inventive.  In true Maggie Speaks’ fashion song selections ranged from ’60s classics to current hits.

Maggie Speaks was pleased to help design a solution that focused on team building. The sales regions shared ideas, got creative and utilized skills that apply to all facets of their business.

How to make one band into three

Fortune 500 Auto Manufacturer | Cabo San Lucas, Mexico | 2007

Our client was hosting a major incentive trip for top executives and sales staff at a beachside resort in Cabo San Lucas.  Over 4 nights they needed music for 3 different events – all with different vibes and atmosphere – but costs and logistics on 3 bands would have been prohibitive.

The trip’s theme was “Hotel Califonia” (the actual Hotel California is just outside of Cabo San Lucas) so our client really wanted an Eagle’s tribute band.  They did not want the complications and expense of a full band flying into Mexico with work visas, backline and lodging for one night’s show when they had 2 other nights of entertainment to account for.

We were really excited about meeting this challenge for a long-term client.  We love playing our regular dance set – it’s well honed, fast paced and we craft it to engage a huge demographic.  But this was an opportunity for us to apply our event expertise and the amazing talents of our members to some different musical needs.

Night One
A giant tent was erected on the beach and the all the guests were together for a welcome dinner party.  Maggie Speaks used Hablamos De Danza (our latin pop sets) to deliver familiar and danceable music that enhanced the theme.  Hablamos De Danza features artists such as Santana, Gipsy Kings and Enrique Iglesias to add just the right flavor to our dance set.

Night Two
The executives gathered at a private villa on the ocean for a more intimate dinner where networking and conversation were key.  Sing Us a Song (our piano and voice program) and Speak Easy (our acoustic arrangement) gave the right vibe for cocktails and dinner and still offered guests the opportunity to dance and sing without encroaching on those that wanted to continue networking.

Night Three
Back in the big tent, fully decked out for the Hotel California theme, our client needed their Eagles show.  As a repeat client they knew Maggie Speaks would deliver the requisite attention to detail to this custom performance.  We developed a full show of spot-on Eagles arrangements and even hit solo material from Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh. We call this labor of love Tell You Why.

This was a wonderfully successful opportunity to showcase our versatility while solving a big logistic problem for our client.  It’s a typical problem – everyone wants variety but they don’t want to sacrifice quality or gamble with an unproven or inexperienced act.  Maggie Speaks has made it our business to solve this problem.

A great wedding band should…

Odds are that over half of your wedding reception will be dedicated to music and dancing and often it’s the last part of your wedding that your guests will experience.  Much of the success or failure of your wedding will fall into the hands of your wedding band. That’s a lot to trust to a band with little or no wedding experience.

Why?  If you see a band that sounds good to you won’t that work for your wedding?  It seems pretty simple, doesn’t it?  Set up some instruments and play good songs and you’re home free, right?  Like all crafts, performing at a wedding has a lot of detail and nuance that when done well make it look easy.  When done poorly or ignored the results are usually less than ideal.

So in no particular order here are some key factors we think make or break bands.

A great wedding band should…

  1. Ask the right questions to understand your vision and help you plan
  2. Understand and help control the pace and flow of a reception
  3. Present the appropriate look in dress and stage presentation
  4. Cater to all your guests’ demographics
  5. Read your crowd and make good musical choices
  6. Coordinate with photographers and other vendors
  7. Handle themselves professionally before, during and after your wedding
  8. Understand your venue’s acoustic properties and adjust accordingly
  9. Identify and head off common problems before you’re even aware of them
  10. Deliver outstanding musicianship in a show that people will remember

A great wedding band will listen to your vision and participate in your planning process.  They will help create and execute a plan that will allow you to reduce stress on the big night and be a guest at your own wedding, deftly avoiding the pitfalls and gaffes that can diminish your evening.

Save your gambling for the honeymoon.
